Experts discuss water conditions in mountainous regions

MUSCAT: The seminar on ‘water sustainable management in fragile mountainous eco-systems,’ organised by Oman Water Society, begins today at Anantara Resort in Saih Qutnah in the Niyabat of Al Jabal Al Akhdhar, Wilayat of Nizwa under the auspices of Mohammed bin Salim al Toobi, Minister of Environment and Climate Affairs.


A number of experts and specialists will discuss the water condition in the mountainous areas and how to develop and benefit from them.


The 21 working papers that will be presented will focus on the hydrological features and their effects on water resources, the uses of water in the different activities in the mountain areas, the development of traditional and untraditional water resources in mountains, the environmental assessment, the effect of climate changes on mountainous water resources, the implementation of the modern technologies that enhance sustainable development of water in the mountains.


The working paper titles include ‘water resources in Oman mountains and the possibility for fruit production, the sustainable water management in mountainous areas using low- costing technologies, harvesting rain water in Oman mountains, the water condition in Al Jabal Al Akhdhar, the importance of dams, the use of treated water by Haya and the water networks in the mountainous


areas in the Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah and the Governorate of Musandam.


It should be noted that Oman Water Society was established in 2010 to provide a platform for water experts to share ideas, researches and discuss challenges. The Society aims at promoting knowledge and technologies used in water management. — ONA
