Muscat, July 4 -

Rains that began on Tuesday in the adjoining areas of Al Hajar Mountains are expected to continue until Thursday.

Rains are expected around the Governorates of Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhiliyah and Al Sharqiyah, according to the Met Office.

“Rains could be stronger on Thursday,” said the weather expert at the Public Authority for Civil Aviation, adding the rain is a “typical summer feature”.

The expert urged road users to be cautious on Thursday while driving home for the weekend.

The Met Office has issued an advisory on thunderstorms for Ibra, Bahla, Al Mudhebi, Al Rustaq, Ibri, Saiq, Al Sunainah, Samayil, Nizwa, Qurayyat, Al Hamra, Izki, Bidbid, Jabal Shams, Al Buraimi and Yanqul.

The convective cloud development is expected to bring rain over Al Hajar Mountains and the adjoining wilayats in the afternoon.

Low-level clouds or fog patches are expected along the coastal areas during late night or early morning.

In Dhofar, coastal areas and the adjoining mountains are expected to experience cloudy skies with intermittent drizzle. Weather office has requested the public to be cautious as the drizzle could affect horizontal visibility.

“This year’s Khareef in Dhofar should be good,” said the Met Office. Salalah is also experiencing high humidity levels ranging from 85 per cent to 95 per cent.

Arabian Sea is expected to be rough with a wave height of 4.5 metres. Oman Sea will be slight to moderate with a maximum wave height of 1.5 metres. In coastal areas of Oman Sea, winds will be easterly to northeasterly light to moderate during the day and variable light at night.

Over the rest of the Sultanate, the wind direction will be southerly to southeasterly light to moderate.
