MUSCAT, MAy 12 - Authorities have urged customers to be vigilant as a large number of expatriate workers continue to illegally operate in food preparation and distribution business. The authorities claim that food items are prepared and stored in unhygienic places before they are distributed to various food outlets. Recently, the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) in Southern Batinah, (Rustaq), in cooperation with the Public Prosecution and the Royal Oman Police, arrested a number of expatriate workers for preparing meals in unhealthy conditions without obtaining the necessary licenses from the authorities.

The director of the Consumer Protection Department in Rustaq said the department received information that a number of expatriate workers were involved in the preparation of meals in one of the apartment flats, which were then sold to restaurants, cafes and bakeries. PACP has urged all citizens and residents to cooperate with them by reporting such illegal practices that affect human health directly.
