Expat sentenced to jail for operating unlicenced pharmacy

Muscat: An Appeal Court in Mudhibi issued a judgment in favor of the Consumer Protection Department against an expatriate for operating a pharmacy without a license, selling the unregistered drugs in the ministry and violating the law.


The court verdict included six months imprisonment and expulsion at the end of the sentence. The court also ordered the seizure of drugs and added that the confiscated money will be deposited in the state treasury.


As per the details, the department of Consumer Protection in North Sharqiyah received a report that the defendant sold medical capsules (pills) not authorized to trade without obtaining licenses from the competent authorities. During investigations they also found other medicines in his possession.


In the first judgment against the accused was fined RO1,000, six months imprisonment, expulsion from the country at the end of his sentence.


The defendant had filed an appeal against that verdict.
