MUSCAT: As part of the activities of the 33rd GCC Traffic Week that aims at spreading awareness on traffic culture among road users in the GCC countries, The Research Council (TRC), Royal Oman Police (ROP), Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) and University of Southampton, organised on Tuesday a joint symposium on ‘Evidence-base for strengthening road safety policies and interventions in the Sultanate of Oman’ at the Traffic Safety Institute.

The symposium aimed to engage researchers, decision-makers, policy specialists and relevant stakeholders, review the scientific evidence and existing road safety interventions, identify the gaps in evidence-base for further research and translate research evidence for designing appropriate policies and interventions to improve road safety and related outcomes.

The deliberations will outline a set of action plans for research, data, capacity building and implementing evidence-based interventions. The symposium addressed various topics such as existing interventions and challenges of road safety, Road Safety Research Program that is supervised by TRC, research evidence and gaps, and translating evidence for policies and interventions.
