Muscat: One of the most looked forward to annual golf events in the country, the sixth edition of the Europcar Open Golf Challenge was held on Friday, December 7, at the Al Mouj Golf Course. With passionate golfers from different clubs who swung their clubs to some challenging holes, the tournament climaxed in an evening of celebrations with the presentation of the grand trophy and a host of other prizes for numerous winners in different categories.

After the tremendous success of the last five editions of the Europcar Open, the sixth edition promised to be even more enthralling. Besides the four clubs from Muscat, this year the Europcar Open had one new club participating in the Inter-Club Challenge — Dubai Creek Golf Club represented by four players.

The guests of honour for the evening prize distribution ceremony were Manabile Shogole, South African Ambassador to Oman, Marcus Bernhardt, Managing Director, Europcar Mobility Group, and Rishi Khimji, CEO of Asha Enterprises LLC.

The winner of Division A — Men’s Championship Course — was Navaid Ahmed while Simon Walker secured the runner-up position. The winner of Division B — Men’s Championship Course — was David Short while Steve Pickering won the runner-up position. In the women’s category, Emma Merritt walked away as the winner of the Women’s Championship Course and Lynn Casey came as runner-up in the Championship Course. The Europcar Open 2018 Interclub Champion was won by Muscat Hills.

“It has been six glorious years and the response to this annual event keeps getting better with every passing year,” said Nitin Sapre, GM, Europcar Oman.

The title sponsor for this prime corporate Golfing event is Europcar Oman partnered by Mistal Watches.

The event was also jointly powered by Mitsubishi Motors and Al Ahlia Insurance. Travelex were the foreign exchange partner, Srilankan Airlines, the airline partner, Kempinski, the hotel partner, Al Seeb Technical Est (SARCO), the electronics partner, WH Smith, the retail partner, and African & Eastern, the beverage partner.

The tournament was also supported by Mumtaz Mahal and Woodlands restaurant.
