MUSCAT: Pranav Mehta’s unbeaten knock of 46 helped MDC Enhance Eagles to a comfortable six-wicket win against Salman Stores in the first match of their 50-over A Division campaign at the Ministry of Sports grassy ground 1 in Al Amerat on Friday.

Chasing a modest target of 113, Enhance lost three quick wickets before a 54-run fifth wicket partnership between Mehta and Pradeep Kumar brought them out of the doldrums. Finally, Enhance eased past the target in 32.4 overs with Mehta not out at 46, hitting 5 fours and a six. Left-arm pacer Muzammil Ilyas claimed two wickets for 29 in his 9 overs.

Earlier, after winning the toss, Enhance decided to bowl first and reduced Salman Stores to 66 for 6. Salman Stores never really recovered from the setback and folded up for a meagre 113 in 31.3 overs. Young Asim Kamal and Imran Haider were the only notable scorers with knocks of 31 and 20 respectively.

Habib, Omkar Pramod, Guru Prasanna and Ali all claimed two wickets each for Enhance.

SARCO ease past E&Y

In a B Division season opener, SARCO put up a powerful performance against Ernst and Young, registering a 145-run victory in the 30-over match at Muscat Municipality Ground 1.

Put in to bat first, SARCO made the most of the opportunity to put up a big total on the board and ended up with a huge 260 for 7 in 30 overs. Tosim Khan (46), Zahid Hafiz (40), Pradeep Salian (51) and Ajay Menon (54) all played quality knocks to pile up a daunting total. Rana Zeshan claimed three wickets for 41.

Ernst and Young found the going tough from the very beginning and were bundled out for just 115 in 16.1 overs. Captain Zahid Hafiz showed his all-round prowess by claiming four wickets following his gutsy batting. Only Mohammed Attique (22) and skipper Omar Sarfraz (32) showed some resistance against the SARCO onslaught.

Brief Scores: SARCO 260 for 7 (Tosim Khan 46 – 4x4, Zahid Hafiz 40 – 5x4, Pradeep Salain 7x4, Sathisha Achary 33 – 3x4, Ajay Menon 54 – 7x4, 2x6. ) beat Ernst and Young 115 all out (Mohammed Attique 22 – 4x4, 1x6, Omar Sarfraz 32 – 4x4 Mohammed Nayaz 21 – 2x4. Zahid Hafiz 4-29, Saeed Khan 3-28).

Zawawi Powertech win

battle of engineering firms

A power-packed 74 off just 44 balls by Prabhakaran Kannan and a fluent 64 by Kalairasan Nataranjan steered Zawawi Powertech Engineering to a closely fought win over Al Mada Engineering in another B Division game at the Municipality Ground 2.

Batting first, Al Mada were given a flying start by their openers (Ashok Patel 41 off 30 balls) but the fall of first wicket resulted in a mini collapse and they appeared to be in a serious trouble at 95 for 4. However a 50-run partnership for the fifth wicket between Nishanth Memon (32) and Shahil Mohammed (31), followed by a hurricane 38 off 23 by Deepak Bhandari wrested Al Mada out of hot waters. By the time their 30 overs were completed, Al Mada had reached a respectable 221 for 8. Kalairasan and Aroan Dadyus bowled well to claim 2 and 3 wickets respectively.

Zawawi Powertech overcame the loss of opener Mohammed Ikram Sadaat, who got out without opening his account, and went about chasing the target in a calm, composed and calculated way, ultimately winning the game with a good 13 balls to spare.

Brief scores: Al Mada Engineering 221 for 8 (Ashok Patel 41 – 8x4, Nishanth Memon 32 – 4x4, Deepak Bhandari 38 – 6x4. Aroan Dadyus 3-47, Kalairasan 2-39) lost to Zawawi Powertech Engineering 222 for 6 in 27.5 overs (Prabhakaran Kannan 74 – 13x4, 1x6, Kalairasan Nataranjan 64 – 6x4, Karthikeyan Veerapan 31 – 5x4. Mohammed Raza Mohsin 3-31, Mohammed Reajul Islam 2-53).

OCT Seeb too good

for OCT Al Hail A

Star Omani player Sufiyan Mahmood led OCT Seeb to a crushing 106-run win over OCT Al Hail A with a stroke-filled knock of 77 off just 49 balls.

His young opening partner Issa al Balushi, known for his brilliant fielding, was equally ruthless in power hitting with a whirlwind 60 off only 40 balls. His elder brother Yusuf al Balushi gave the innings a befitting end with a hurricane 38 off just 15 balls, hitting 2 fours and 3 towering sixes. By the time their quota of 20 overs was bowled OCT Seeb had posted a mammoth 201 for 4 on the board.

Facing a daunting task of chasing a huge total, OCT Al Hail crumbled under pressure, managing only 95 all out in 17 overs. Only Abdul Ghani (19) and Mohammed Siddiq (13) showed some resistance. OCT star all-rounders Issa, Sufiyan and Yusuf impressed with the ball too, claiming three, two and two wickets respectively. Abbas al Balushi took two wickets too.

Brief scores: OCT Seeb 201 for 4 (Issa al Balushi 60 – 10x4, 1x6, Sufiyan Mahmood 77 – 10x4, Yusuf al Balushi 38 – 2x4, 3x6. Hisham Shafi 2-38) beat OCT Al Hail A (Abdul Ghani 19, 4x4. Issa 3-18, Sufiyan 2-07, Yusuf 2-16, Abbas al Balushi 2-31).
