Engineering students show off innovations

MUSCAT: The 7the Engineering Students’ Exhibition, organised by the Engineering Society at Sultan Qaboos University’s College of Engineering was held at the University on Sunday under the auspices of Saeed bin Saleh al Kiyumi, Chairman of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry.


This annual event is a platform for engineering students from SQU and various higher educational institutions in Oman to display their projects and innovative skills.  The exhibition this year features 43 student projects. The largest number of projects comes from the colleges of Engineering and Agricultural and Marine Sciences at SQU that have 18 projects and 7 graduation projects.

Other higher educational institutions in Oman have come up with 18 projects. The exhibition is accompanied by a panel discussion on “engineering and entrepreneurship” which is the theme of the event this year.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Abdullah bin Hamed al Badi, Dean of the College of Engineering at SQU, said that this annual event is a platform for engineering students across Oman to highlight their creativity and talents.


“The College of Engineering at SQU is keen to promote the creativity of its students so that the society can benefit from their human resources potential in the years to come. The college also organises various events such as seminars and workshops and other activities to promote the skills and talents of its students and to strengthen the communication between the faculty and the students,” he said. The dean said that the best student projects would be selected and presented at international competitions and conferences.
