Egyptian daily hails Alawi as a ‘master of diplomacy’

MUSCAT: Al Akhbar, an Egyptian newspaper, has published an interview with Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdallah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs, describing him as a ‘master of diplomacy’ in the world. According to the newspaper, Alawi is a ‘man of mediation’ as he has played the role of “peace-maker in serious conflicts and even in hopeless situations”. The Sultanate hosted meetings between Tehran and Washington for a nuclear agreement between Iran and the Western countries. Alawi was a ‘hero’ at this meeting, the paper said. In his statements, he said: “Iran is a neighbour we have to deal with. It’s a country that has a lot of issues with others, yet, we have common interests with everyone and we maintain those interests as everyone else does so in his way.”  The paper mentioned that Alawi thinks conflicts between Cairo and Riyadh are “just healthy differences in views” and they will end soon.
