Egypt boost quarter hopes, Qatar sail

Egypt boosted their qualification hopes with a 4-0 drubbing of Canada in the second CISM World Cup football championship at the ROP Stadium in Watayah on Thursday.


For Egypt, Ahmed Eid Abdel Malek opened the scoring through a penalty in the 33rd minute.


Hossam Salama increased the lead in the 39th minute to make it 2-0 at half-time.


Egypt, cheered by a sizeable supporters at the stadium, continued their attacks in the second half.


Ahmed El Sheikh found the target in the 64th minute as the score read 3-0. Moamen Zakaria completed the proceedings for Egypt in the 83rd minute with another goal.


With the win, Egypt now have four points from two matches and are ahead of Syria (3 points), who have played a match less.


In the first match, Egypt drew with Poland 1-1.


QATAR BLANK IRELAND


In a Group D match at Seeb Sport Stadium, Qatar blanked Ireland 3-0 to book the quarterfinals from the group. With the second win, Qatar have six points from two matches.


Sonata put Qatar ahead in the 41st minute as they led 1-0 at half-time.


In the second half, Loky (63rd minute) and Abdulkhad (82nd minute) were on target as Qatar wrapped it up 3-0.


In the first match, Qatar crushed USA 5-1.


On Wednesday, Germany edged North Korea 1-0 to stay alive in the competition with three points from the win in Group B. In their first matches, North Korea had blanked Iran 2-0 and Germany went down to Algeria 2-1.
