MUSCAT: The sixth edition of Oman Economic Forum will begin at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre in Muscat on April 29 under the auspices of Sultan bin Salim al Habsi, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Central Bank of Oman (CBO). The two-day forum is organised by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Al Iktissad Wal Aamal, in cooperation with the CBO, ASYAD Group and Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI). As more as 500 participants including ministers, under-secretaries and businessmen representing Omani, GCC, Arab and foreign organisations will take part at the forum.


The forum’s sessions will explore investment opportunities in various economic sectors, notably ports, as well as the role that can be played by the Sultanate through leveraging its strategic location, high quality infrastructure, free economic zones and industrial estates. Officials and economic personalities from the Sultanate and other GCC states will take part at the forum including Yahya bin Said al Jabri, Chairman of the Special Economic Zone Authority at Duqm (SEZAD), Nasser bin Khamis al Jashmi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Tahir bin Salim al Amri, Executive President of the Central Bank of Oman (CBO), Qais bin Mohammed al Yousef, Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), Said bin Hamdoon al Harthy, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications for Ports and Marine Affairs, Waleed al Murshid, Director-General of International Finance Corporation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Khalid bin Mohammed al Zubair, Chairman of Oman International Development and Investment Company (OMINVEST), Dr Ahmed al Qasmi, Director-General of Planning and Studies at the Ministry of Health, Abdul Aziz bin Mohammed al Balushi, CEO of the OMINVEST, Sulaiman bin Hamad al Harthy, Director-General of Meethaq Islamic Banking and Peter Walichnowski, CEO, Omran. The speakers will brief investors and businessmen on details of the upcoming plans and projects by the different organisations. — ONA
