Last Friday night, the rooftop of Park Inn by Radisson, Muscat was well-lit with neon lights making it visible all over the area of Al Khuwair. The laser and flashy lights captured the attention of everyone passing through the highway where the hotel is located. Not only was the building a sight to behold but the events for the evening were set to be one of Oman’s most sensational live concerts of 2017.

Organised by SPIRALS, Fasi production and The365, the Park Inn rooftop called Sama Terrazza featured a fantastic line-up of some of Oman’s best DJs as supporting acts, a custom designed stage for the artists, complex lights, AV setups and projecting world-class visuals and effects. But, it wasn’t the fancy stage or the flashy lights that attracted the crowds, it was none other than the headliner of the night, an artist famous for his unique genre of music that is renowned throughout the world for its diverse beats, uncommon instruments and fantastic mixes that were never seen or heard before in the music industry.

Nucleya is one of the most popular and influential independent artists who is noted for his genre-bending productions, combining EDM along with traditional Indian music instruments and ambient sounds. His songs are played worldwide including being frequently featured on BBC Radio 1 playlists.

He has performed worldwide at various music festivals like Glastonbury and Edinburgh Fringe Festival in the United Kingdom, Lille 3000 in France and Electron Festival in Switzerland. In India, he has opened for international touring artists including Major Lazer, Skrillex, Diplo and many others. Last weekend, he added the Sultanate to this list.

Performing for the first time in the country, Nucleya is known for single-handedly redefining and building, adding to the lexicon of bass music.

It was this complex fusion of sounds and beats and the ambience of the night that drew the crowds of Oman to come and enjoy one of the Sultanate’s best live performances.

The event started at dusk with people pouring into the venue dressed in casual party wear with the same agenda in mind, a night filled with good music, food and dance.

The plans for this big night started only a month ago and the moment the opportunity came, without hesitation, the team made it their point to ensure that Nucleya and Oman shared a platform. Executing a show of this standard in a month is a task many will steer away from. But Spirals with the support of Muscat Party People, Muscat Nights, Fasi Productions and The365 took the challenge upon themselves and worked around the clock to make sure the people were given an unforgettable experience and the opportunity to see first-hand this international name in their own city.

Danish Khan of Spiral Events and a part of the core team responsible making the event possible said, “The night was a massive success, not just for the Indian youth in the country but also for other expats and even the locals were extremely excited to see this international star.”

He added, “From the moment it was announced, I had people calling me to let me know how much they were looking forward to the event and I can proudly say that we were able to deliver. I had guests at the event and those that got in touch shared that they had fantastic time. They also thanked the team for the opportunity to see Nucleya live.””

The event was attended by over a thousand people from the start all the way to the late hours of the night. The ambience of the place was constant buzzing energy with the bass keeping the heart rates up and the music keeping peoples’ feet moving. Whether it was the crowds on the dance floor or those standing around the tables, there was a sense of positive energy with everybody looking happy and excited for what the night would bring in.

Sharing the stage with Nucleya and keeping the crowds busy before the headliner were Dj AB, Dub Bass, Zo of Electric Project, Dj Leon, Dj Wazi, Dj Miss Cara, Dj K Noise.

The big finale was, of course, Nucleya himself. Before he even went on stage, the crowd was already chanting his name confirming the existence of his loyal fan base.

Nucleya himself proved to be an excellent performer. His energetic handling of the remaining hours of the event proved his charisma and charm.

He was seen leading the attendees into dancing not a moment where he was staying in one place for a long time. All throughout his performance, he kept the great vibe going inspiring even the shyest to let go and dance to the music.

The visuals on stage were just as spectacular, using clips from old Bollywood films, random clips of instruments, graphics and faces aided by the flashing lights. The music gave attendees a sense of euphoria, it was impossible to stand still without moving to the rhythms of his unique and creative mixes. Nucleya’s sound is known for its Indian touch and this was evident from the sounds of Indian instruments like Tabla, Sitar, Shehnai and the dhol.

One of the attendees who had previously been to Nucleya concerts made it a point to come see this extraordinary artist for the third time on home turf,.

Shaivya Sharma said, “One of the main reasons I wanted to attend Nucleya is because his music is the perfect fusion of western and Indian beats. Although his songs all use Indian beats, sounds and songs but his clever construction of the songs appeal to audiences from around the globe.”

She added, “His quirky take on old Bollywood classics like Mera Laung Gavacha remixed appeals to the younger generations extending the longevity of these dated classics. Irrespective of how many times I see him, I doubt I will ever get bored as his music is so dynamic, his concerts never fail to amaze me!”
