Duqm Refinery inaugurates its Local Value Added Program

Duqm: Al Duqm Refinery today celebrated the inauguration of the Local Value Added Opportunities Forum at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Al Duqm in conjunction with the start of the construction of the project, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2022.


Jacobus Nieuwenhuijze, Project Director of Al Duqm Refinery said that the project will contribute to the creation of training and employment opportunities for the Omani youths, reviving the economic activities in the Sultanate and achieving a positive impact in various sectors and economic and social activities in the Sultanate.


For his part, Yousef bin Mohammed al Jahdami, Deputy Director of the project, said that the project includes three main packages for engineering, procurement and construction, adding that these packages contain many business opportunities for small and medium enterprises, suppliers and local contractors as 10 per cent of the project value is allocated in each package for SMEs and 20 per cent for local contractors for the goods and services to be provided for the project.


He added that it was agreed with the implementing companies of the project to allocate 10 per cent of Omanisation efforts at various levels of employment in companies benefiting from these opportunities.


The three-day event includes a number of programs, including training workshops and a local value-added opportunities exhibition, to learn about available training opportunities and business opportunities for SMEs and local entrepreneurs. --ONA
