Duqm Airport PTB inauguration date announced

Muscat: The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MOTC) on Tuesday announced the commercial operations of the Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) at Duqm Airport from September 17.


The announcement follows the completion of the project and the success of the basic operating trials that included the participation of all concerned parties.


Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salem al Futtaisi, MOTC, said that the opening of the PTB at Duqm Airport is in line with the qualitative leap witnessed by the civil aviation sector in the Sultanate.


As an important addition to the Special Economic Zone in Duqm, the airport will contribute to revitalizing the economic, social and tourism sector in the Sultanate.


He said that all construction work linked to the Package Three, namely the PTB and the accompanying facilities has been completed.


 


The airport operator, Oman Airports, in cooperation with a number of government agencies and companies operating the flight services, will continue with the trial operations until September 15.


The airport, designed in line with the latest international engineering standards, has been equipped with modern systems in the fields of communications, information technology, security surveillance systems and navigation and meteorological devices. It will help the airport to deal with various incoming flights both inside the Sultanate and international flights from outside the Sultanate.


The PTB is spread over 27,386 sq, of which 9,614 sq m is for the passenger terminal, with a capacity to handle 500,000 million passengers per year and can expand to two million passengers annually.


The ground floor will meet the needs of the necessary travelers through restaurants, and retail stores and other service facilities. It will have two aerobridges, five check-in counters, electronic gates with advanced security systems and a conveyor belt for international and domestic flights.


On the navigation side, the airport will have a 38 m Air Traffic Control (ATC), buildings meteorology services, various airport services, security apparatus, cooling units and a fire station.


An air cargo has been built next to the passenger terminal with an area of


​​9,958 sq m with a capacity to handle 25,000 tonnes per year in line with the economic development of the region.


Flight operations started from a makeshift passenger terminal at Duqm Airport 23, 2014 as the ministry completed the first and second packages of the project that included parking slots for four aircraft, including the A380, as well as the implementation of a network of roads alongside facilities rainwater drainage, potable water for airport facilities and a sewage network.
