Drugs having serious impact on youth

Life is more precious and should not be sacrificed to things of no value. We live our life only once. So it should be well-invested. Once you inhale air, you cannot guarantee you can exhale it later.

One’s life might come to an end at any time. It’s just a matter of how serious you are about managing your life and making it more fruitful. None of us would want to experience a miserable life.

Everyone wants to have a happy, prosperous and successful life. Just try to avoid things that spoil your life. Live for the moment and enjoy it as much as possible.

Old days are over and now it’s the present life. It’s you who will make it or break it. The choice is yours. As our day-to-day life is being impacted by modern technology and changes, lots of people are getting trapped in extremely bad things that have turned their life into a misery — psychological, social and monetary.

They have become victims of their own desires, slip-ups and ignorance of life values.

Among the most common issues that are affecting lives of many people are drugs. These psychotropic substances are widespread and can be easily obtained today. Many, especially the youth, have surrendered their life to drugs as it has become everything for them.

They regard it as a relief from stress. However, drugs are the reason behind their failure and miserable life. It’s all because they have got addicted to drugs.

Drug addiction is becoming a big issue in society. These poisons have a severe impact on society as many parents have lost their sons, couples are getting divorced and families are getting separated because of serious drugs crisis.

However, tremendous efforts have been made by both public and private organisations, including the National Committee for Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances. Other authorities concerned in the Sultanate are also sparing no effort in combating drugs.

The number of people addicted to drugs is frightening indeed and it’s increasing every year. Many addicts are scared to get themselves registered/ monitored or seek professional treatment from specialised institutes. It’s really serious if those addicts are rejecting treatment as their conditions might get worse.

Since the Royal Decree was issued to constitute this committee in 1999, tremendous efforts have been made to combat drugs, treat all those who are addicted and provide relevant essential health services.

All the initiatives have been offered in collective cooperation between all the parties concerned, including the Royal Oman Police (ROP), the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Social Development, the Ministry of Manpower and the Ministry of Health and others.

Special healthcare facilities, social, psychological and awareness programmes, comfortable homes, dedicated clinics all over the country, and devoted counsellors and consultants have been offered to addicts undergoing treatment or those who want to give up drugs forever.

Besides, psychological clinics spread across governorates provide initial consultation and diagnoses for the addicts.

The government, individuals as well as public institutions should come together to fight this issue in society. Otherwise, drugs will destroy the youth who are the backbone of our nation.

Public associations, sports clubs, mosques and youth camps should take part in the comprehensive drugs combat campaign in the country. All these institutes play a vital role in guiding and inspiring youth. We should all join hands to have a country free of drugs.
