Draft law on patients’ rights, safety discussed

MUSCAT: Majlis Ash’shura’s Health and Environmental Committee discussed at its 3rd regular meeting of the 2nd annual sitting (2016-2017) of the 8th term (2015-2019) on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Ali bin Khalfan al Qutaiti, Head of the Committee, the draft law on patient rights and safety, which aimed at having legislation on the patient’s rights. The committee hosted some of the stakeholders and specialists from the Ministry of Health. The meeting discussed the importance of having such a law in the Sultanate, which will help to set rules governing the relationship between doctor and patient, and the legal language that will maintain the confidentiality of the information and files of patients, and other topics related to this matter. The meeting also reviewed some of the letters received by the committee, in addition to the review of the Nairobi International Convention for the removal of marine debris for 2017, referred by the government. — ONA
