MUSCAT,NOV 8 - Even as the number of online scams increase, banks have been continued to warn their customers against sharing their account numbers or personal details with strangers. “Please refrain from sharing your bank account details with strangers who claim to transfer millions of dollars to your account. The bank will not ask for your account details,” said a mail from a bank cautioning customers. “Spamsters promise to pay huge sums of money or reward you with costly goods. Instead of responding, inform the authorities about them,” said an official at the special branch that combats cyber financial crimes.

Spamsters, who send out mails promising huge sums of money, ask for your bank account details. A typical spam mail received by aa reader looked like this: “Kindly find the attached telex copy of payment to your account. Please confirm with your bank and do the needful. Sorry for the delay. Regards. Mercy Fund Transfer Department Island Branch.” Online service providers too have begun to warn users of the imminent danger in opening such mails. “Be careful with this message. It contains a suspicious link that can be used to steal personal information. Unless you trust the sender, don’t click on links or reply with personal information,” it warns.
