While blood donation during Ramadhan is “absolutely safe”, medical experts, however, said it is better for a fasting person to donate blood post-iftar “for medical reasons”.

There has been a 75 per cent dip in the number of Muslim donors at Bausher Blood Bank (BBB), Oman’s only blood bank, during the holy month. Non-Muslims have continued to donate blood.

BBB has sufficient stock of blood for distribution among the hospitals during the month. “Although there is a shortage of supply, we have collected adequate number of units for the month, which sees fewer donors,” said a source.

Muslims can donate blood between 7.30 pm and 11 pm at the blood bank.

BBD has two mobile blood collection units that visit mosques during these days. These vehicles are stationed at mosques from 8 pm to 11 pm.

On Tuesday, the mobile van will be stationed at Zawawi Mosque in Al Khuweir and Muttrah Corniche from 8 pm.

On June 18, they can be found at Seeb Souq and another near Mazoon Complex in Ruwi.

On June 19, Omanis and expats living near Al Khoudh Souq and Mars Hypermarket in Al Hail can take part in the “national blood donation drive”. Two vehicles will be stationed there.
