SALALAH, Aug 15 - Where to go is always a question among the tourists after reaching a destination. This, however, is hardly an issue in Salalah due to its pristine weather. Remaining in your accommodation or even walking leisurely or driving aimlessly has some soothing effect, particularly for those who are coming from extreme hot conditions. The Ministry of Tourism, however, has tried to resolve this issue of ‘where to go’ by bringing out a ‘guide’. This ‘Discover Dhofar in six days’ guide has suggestion even for shopping and enjoying the Omani cuisines.

The information is handy for the visitors giving them choice of covering major tourist spots in six days starting (First day) from western Salalah, which includes places like Sahil (plain) Itin, Ain Jarziz, the tomb of the Prophet Ayoub, lunch at the heights of Itin mountain, city tour between farms and coconuts stalls in Salalah city, visiting the Al Baleed Archaeological Site, sunset at Hafah beach and then have a feeling of shopping at Souk Al Hafah, which is known also as Frankincense souk among many.

The second day suggestion is further west — tour in Dhalkout, some 90km away from Salalah; while coming back from Dhalhout, a tour of Rakhyout city; a stopover at Shaat and then proceed to famous Fazayah beach.

The rush of vehicles towards Al Marnif Cave takes the visitors automatically to Al Mughsail Beach area while sunset at Aftaqout is marvellous to catch.

The third day is mostly for eastern Salalah which covers spots like Ain Sahlanoot, Shear Road, Ain Razat, Taqah Fort, the famous Wadi Darbat, a view from Darbat heights, Samharam Archaeological Site, Taqag Cave, and sunset viewing from Taqah city.

The guide suggests to keep the fourth day exclusively for Salalah city, for Salalah Tourism Festival, malls and experiencing authentic Omani dinner at several restaurants spread over in Itin.

The meat dishes cooked on hot stones are served at Al Magabi restaurants.

Fifth day is recommended for Wadi Dawkah and Wubar Archaeological Site, which is some 170km from Salalah. Further down is Al Khathef desert or Al Hashman desert.

These locations, however, are best suited during the winter season due to heat conditions prevailing over there.

These sites are not covered under monsoon (Khareef). The guide suggests the sixth day in the eastern region of the Dhofar Governorate.

Visit to Mirbat Castle is important among them.

Then move to the Wilayat of Sadah, where there is a pristine beach called Hat and the famous Shrine of Saleh bin Hood.

The same direction has scenic coastal road of Hasik.

The place Hasik itself is worth seeing for its scenic mountains and natural springs.

Time permitting one can visit Shuwaimiyah Beach, which is 300km away from Salalah.

An official at the Ministry of Tourism in Salalah said the guide has been designed to help the visitors in selecting the places they could explore during their Salalah visit.
