Dialogue focuses on consumer protection, scientific research

MUSCAT: The General Secretariat for Information and Research Centre organised the 4th module of the ‘Researchers’ dialogue programme’ on Thursday, which was presided over by Dr Khaled bin Salem al Saidi, Secretary-General of the State Council, and attended by employees of the Secretariat for the Information and Research Centre as well as of Majlis Ash’shura.


Dr Al Saidi said the programme would help develop skills and capacity of the researchers to provide Council members with the accurate information to support the process of parliamentary decision making.


He noted that a series of researchers’ programmes had been constantly improving both in terms of content and level of organisation, and added that the programme would continue this development approach. The next meeting would discuss ways to enhance the skills of researchers in the State Council and Majlis Ash’shura.


Altaf bint Omar al Marhoon, Assistant Secretary-General for Information and Research Centre, said the researchers’ dialogue programme confirms the Council’s keenness to create a stimulating and supportive work environment for research excellence, to develop the quality of the research product and to build a positive spirit and interaction among team members in performing research and informational work.


She noted that the event is attended by officials and employees of the Majlis Ash’shura under joint cooperation to assist in the exchange of experiences and upgrading of the research capacities of the staff of the two Councils.


Dr Mohamed bin Hamad al Araimi, Senior Media Specialist from Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP), presented a paper on the Authority which detailed its inception and objectives.


He tackled the challenges and difficulties faced by the PACP since its inception and highlighted its accomplishments.


He explained the methodology of its work in relation to other organisations in protecting consumers rights. He stressed the importance of the Consumer Protection Law and its comprehensive application in different sectors.


Sultan bin Khamis al Kharoisi, Head of the Social Development Section of the Secretariat for the Information and Research Centre, presented a paper entitled: “The reality and indicators of scientific research in the Arab nation: The Sultanate of Oman”.


He said that it is a model that addresses the concept of scientific research and its importance in creating a solid bridge linking accumulated cognitive application, transforming knowledge into tangible benefits for individuals through technology, and solving many of the problems and issues that humans face in daily life. Further, he addressed a number of topics related to scientific research.
