SALALAH: A number of Omani students at the College of Engineering, Dhofar University innovated a traffic project that can address the traffic flow at real time and provide practical solutions to traffic congestions. The project uses IT&C in the collection of data in real time and analyses them. Based on the analysis, the system develops a solution that facilitates and ensures smooth traffic flow. The system includes a traffic light control system at a standard crossroad and pedestrian walkways. The system has the ability to connect with GPS supported by satellites and communicate using GSM networks.
The project aims at creating quick solution in emergency cases or extraordinary movement, such as a traffic accident at the crossroads freezing the traffic completely. The system will automatically communicate with the central traffic control system through SMS that includes all information about the time and place of accident. The system will provide the relevant staff with quick solutions that help them in addressing the emergency conditions. — ONA
