Sohar move up to sixth spot with a 3-1 thrashing of Al Suwaiq

MUSCAT: 10-time Omantel League champions Dhofar consolidated their top position with a 2-0 win over Al Shabab as Saham moved to second spot with a 2-1 result against Sur in the seventh round matches late on Wednesday.

At their away match at the Seeb Sports Stadium, Dhofar netted both the goals in the second half.

Dhofar are on top of the table with 19 points from seven matches.

At the Sur Sports Complex, Saham found the winner in the second half after a 1-1 score at the first half. Saham are second with 15 points.

At Al Buraimi Complex, Al Nahda blanked Muscat 2-0 after scoring a goal each in both the halves.

Al Nahda are third with 14 points.

SOHAR THRASH AL SUWAIQ

Sohar moved up to sixth spot with 11 points after they thrashed former champions Al Suwaiq 3-1 at the Sohar Sports Complex. Buoyed by the home crowd, Sohar raced ahead in the first 30 minutes with a 3-0 lead. Al Suwaiq, who pulled one back in the first half itself, failed to break the solid Sohar defence in the second half.

With the defeat, Al Suwaiq fell to ninth spot with eight points.

Oman Club just moved up the relegation zone with a hard-fought 3-2 victory against Majees at the Sohar Sports Complex. Majees led 1-0 at the first half. Fifth-placed Al Nasr and Al Oruba split points after a goalless draw at the Youth Complex in Salalah. It was the same result between Al Rustaq and Mirbat at the Seeb Stadium.

Al Rustaq, who beat Sur in the sixth round, now are placed 10th on the table.
