Mai al Abria -

There is always something new to enjoy in the desert camps, something that would keep you busy the whole day long away from the social media complications and the whole world.

Generally, people leave urban areas to spend time outdoors in more natural ones in pursuit of activities providing them enjoyment and relaxation.

I am one such, who has made it a habit to enjoy a day in the desert at least once every year.

This year, our visit was to Sama al Wasil Desert Camp. We reached the camp in the afternoon after a two- hour drive from Muscat. you can always arrange with the camp to pick you up from Al Maha petrol Station in Al Wasil, Bidiya, because the trip to the camp requires a 4 X 4 vehicle.

Sama al Wasil Desert Camp is an Eco-friendly lodge located in a flat valley 192 km from Muscat, in the heart of Sharqiya Sands in Bidiya and the camp is surrounded by dunes, where guests can enjoy the feeling of complete seclusion and escapism from the outside world.

In the Camp, there was no network connection. Although I felt unconnected to the world at the beginning, I gradually felt that a day without a mobile phone would be useful to contemplate and evaluate things clearly.

Sunset seeing is the first important activity you chose when visiting sand dunes. Unlike other times, in this visit we chose to climb the dunes walking. We were extremely thrilled to reach the peak and enjoy the sunset seeing from the top.

Whether your plans include adventure or relaxation, Sama al Wasil Camp offers a variety of activities for both adults and children like riding camel, climbing sand dunes, sunset seeing, para motor flying, micro light riding.

These camps promote community services as it gives job opportunities to the local residents who work as drivers, Mohammed, the manager of the camp explains. “the camels are also owned by the local residents. The camp arranges with the owner if any visitor wishes to experience camel riding”.

“Our accommodation consists of 27 standard chalets, 2 family chalets and 7 Sultan tents, all with generous outside patios for your personal relaxation. You will enjoy daily breakfast and dinner included in your room rate. The menu varies regularly, it does often include barbecued meats and fish brought fresh each day from the local markets, especially for you. Eating under the desert sky is always a wonderful experience, with roaring campfires”, Mohammed said.

Sama al Wasil Desert Camp is not only a place of leisure and relaxation, it is also the perfect location for business, corporate and private events. Be it seminars, team building activities, industry meetings, lectures, merchandising or product launches, birthday parties or just simply a weekend away with a group of family and friends. We can also accommodate educational and research field trips that could use the camp as a base during their studies. Group events can be tailor-made, with meals and activities being themed around any group’s individual requirements”.
