SEOUL: Mohammed bin Salim al Harthy, Sultanate’s Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, met at the embassy premises in Seoul with Ban Ki-Moon, UN former secretary-general, and with Chun Young, the Deputy Korean Foreign Minister. On behalf of Arab ambassadors, he congratulated Ban Ki-Moon for his appointment as chairman of the Global Green Growth Initiative (GGGI), which is interested in sustainable economic development, environment and climate issues. He said that the long experience and personal interest in the sustainable development and environment related issues will contribute to making more achievements and successes for the institute.

The Sultanate’s ambassador also touched on the role of the Arab Korean Society in enhancing the cultural cooperation between the Arab and Korean sides. Ban Ki-Moon said that Arab countries may benefit from the GGGI in agriculture, environment and climate related projects. He also hailed the Sultanate’s balanced and wise policies of His Majesty the Sultan, as well as the Sultanate’s continuous support to the UN over the past years. “We are looking forward for more cooperation with Arab countries, especially both sides gave great potentials and the Korean Arab Society can play a great role in this,” said Chun Young, the Deputy Korean Foreign Minister.

He stressed the deep rooted culture of the Sultanate and its leading role in maritime navigation throughout the ages and expressed admiration of the architectural design of Sultanate’s Embassy, which may play a great role in enhancing and expanding relations between the Sultanate and Korea. Ban Ki-Moon and the Deputy Korean Foreign Minister toured the embassy and viewed the heritage items at the embassy’s museum and exhibition. The event was attended by a number of accredited Arab ambassadors to the Republic of Korea and officials at the Korean Foreign Ministry. — ONA
