Crime rate drops in Oman

MUSCAT: The crime rate has dropped by 25 per cent in 2016 compared with 2015. Crimes statistics followed a downward trend over the past number of year dropping 15 per cent in 2014 and 17 per cent in 2015.


Crime detection rate rose by a whopping 75 per cent in 2014 and 91 per cent in 2015 while the year 2016 registered an increase of 95 per cent.


This was stated by Brigadier Rashid bin Salim al Badi, Director-General of Inquiries and Criminal Investigations (pictured). A significant progress has been achieved in curing the crimes of theft robbery which dropped by 35 per cent in 2014. The decline in crime rate continued in the next couple of years dropping by 67 per cent in 2015 and 77 per cent in 2016.
