MUSCAT: The Education Council on Wednesday approved the proposal for establishing a law college in Dhofar Governorate. The council, which held its first meeting of the year under the chairmanship of Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal al Busaidy, Minister of Diwan of Royal Court and Chairman of the Education Council, took this decision. The University of Dhofar had sought permission from the Ministry of Higher Education for opening a faculty of law. The meeting began with a discussion on ‘Educational Excellence Award’ for Omani teachers, to be presented by the Ministry of Education.

It stems from the council’s efforts to improve the performance of Omani teachers, besides fostering a spirit of competition in the field of education. The council directed the Ministry of Education to take appropriate measures in this direction. The council reviewed the developments in the preparation of Omani teachers through educational programmes offered at the Sultan Qaboos University, the College of Education in Al Rustaq and private universities. It also discussed the course of the educational rehabilitation programme. The council also reviewed a number of reports and memoranda submitted to it by different entities and took appropriate actions. — ONA
