MUSCAT: The International Conference on Trends of Innovative Mathematics Curricula — Highlights on Early Mathematics Education” recommended a series of recommendations that included the expansion in training of teachers of the second field of basic education as the basis for the other stages of education, especially since the Ministry of Education began this year to apply new curricula based on global chains in mathematics and science.

The conference was concluded in a ceremony held under the patronage of Hilal bin Ali al Hinai, Secretary General of the Research Council.

The conference called for the organisation of a symposium or forum on the evaluation system in light of the implementation of the global chains in mathematics and science and the creation of academic programmes in the Sultanate’s colleges of education to prepare highly qualified teachers to teach in the first stage of education.

It also stressed the necessity of establishing compulsory kindergartens and including them within the educational cycles at the Ministry of Education and considering the linking of curricula to daily life.

During the conference, a series of lectures on mathematics curricula were presented, including a lecture by Dr Hamoud al Harthy, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Education, on the Ministry of Education’s plans to develop the mathematics curriculum, the general objectives of the current development process.

The conference was organised by the Omani Mathematical Committee at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) in celebration of the third Omani Mathematics Day. — ONA
