MUSCAT, Feb 6 - The Muscat Festival being held at the two venues in the capital — Al Amerat Park and Naseem Park — is known for its emphasis on Oman’s traditions and culture. An Omani family visiting the festival for the last four years, said: “We visit the festival grounds every year as this is the time when all our family members, including those coming from abroad, can spend some quality time together.” While the rides, jugglers and stilt walkers keep the audience enthralled, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) has stationed a vehicle that enlightens the children as well as adults about the evils of drugs and narcotics. “The response from the children is overwhelming. They swear not to try out such substances after seeing the evils of drugs,” said Ahmed al Farsi, an ROP official, who was explaining to the visitors.

While the Cultural and Heritage villages at the two venues give insights into life in Oman in the past, the international village gives a kaleidoscopic view of some 25 countries of the world. “The International Village is worth visiting because of its images of the global cultures and traditions,” said Bushra Sidheek, another visitor. “We have been part of the festival since its beginning. We bring our friends and relatives from the region and elsewhere every year.” The festival also includes diverse activities, along with entertainment, education and innovation, thus proving that it’s a ‘complete family festival’.
