Commercial activities up in 3rd quarter

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has said the 10 most registered commercial activities in the third quarter of 2016 amounted to 9,877, compared to 5,079 activities in the same period of 2015. Statistics Department at the Directorate-General of Planning and Follow-up in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said that the number of these activities increased by 94.47 per cent compared to the same period last year, noting that the activity of Arab and non-Arab women clothing and tailoring was the most registered activity, followed by the building and construction contracting activity in the third quarter of 2016.
The reasons behind that were the cancellation of Omanisation in those activities, simplification of procedures and facilities provided by the ministry.
The number of Arab and non-Arab women clothing and tailoring activities was 1,415, followed by building and construction 1,250, ironing 1,189, men hairdressing 1,121, laundry 940, cleaning and polishing of cars 909, cafes 897, gents tailoring 810, restaurants 737, cars’ repair, body mechanic and paint 609. — ONA
