Come Celebrate Oman!

MUSCAT: The Muscat Festival 2017, which kicked off under the theme “Celebrate Oman” on Thursday, hosts various entertainment, dazzle, fun and exciting activities through entertainment, artistic, cultural, sports, social, educational and marketing events of interest to all segments of the society.
The festival’s sites this year include, in addition to the main locations of Al Amerat Public Park and Al Naseem Public Park, the City Theatre in Al Qurum Public Park, Oman Automobile Club and the routes of Oman Tour in several governorates of the Sultanate, the Omani Society for Writers and Literati, Omani Photographic Society, Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque and the Cultural Club, in addition to galleries and courtyards.
Al Amerat Public Park and Al Naseem Public Park are open to visitors starting at 4 pm until 11 pm throughout the festival except weekends until 12 midnight to enjoy the activities of the festival. Visitors are levied nominal entry price of 200 baisas for adults and 100 baisa for children. Tickets can be bought at offices near the entry gates.
Muscat Municipality has early prepared for this annual extravaganza, in collections of recreational, cultural, sports, tourism, economic, science and arts activities, in addition to competitions and family activities that meet the aspirations, promote the Sultanate and benefit all segments of the community and visitors to the festival.
903428The ideas, suggestions and proposals were put with a large participation of the community and the previous studies and statistics of the festival. The Organising Committee of the festival was keen to innovate and give more space for events that attract visitors, which take care of the child, the family and the consolidation of the Omani identity principles. There are new events for the first time, including the tropical rainforest, paintball and aviation educational show.
Al Naseem Public Park hosts many new events this year, including tropical rainforest, the entertainment game paintball, as well as an educational aviation show, which includes a presentation of the equipment and tools for aviation and information in this field for the visitors of the festival.
On the other hand, Muscat Festival 2017 has devoted a significant space for children and family activities, which is hosted by the family village and children’s theatre. Both include diverse events for children to show their talents in various fields of science, arts, sports, etc. Further, the arts and entertainment park is a comprehensive park featuring a wide range of electrical and electronic gaming allocated according to different ages of children and youth.
Al Amerat Public Park includes a variety of events, such as the Omani Heritage Village, which highlights the Omani heritage and folklore, as well as handicrafts, traditional arts, folk games and the traditional market in the village.
In addition to the Heritage Village, there is the trade show, which includes various goods and exhibits from different countries with the participation of entrepreneurs of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to display their goods. The events include arts, entertainment, in addition to presentations, such as flame show, acrobatics, theatre performances, fireworks, and the participation of relevant government service entities and several of non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
The festival also hosts a variety of cultural events, including workshops, cultural and literary evenings, forums, seminars and symposiums, as well as sporting events, including automobiles, motorcycles, and marine shows, tattoo, aqua competitions and Omani Heritage Revival Week.
The festival is making a significant contribution in the field of cultural exchange. Many countries are taking part in the festival through folkloric teams, juggling, aerobatics, flame and balance shows, in addition to the dazzling shows and others. The visitors can see the most important landmarks of those countries, as well as their cultural, intellectual and artistic landmarks.
The sporting events at the Muscat Festival has a large number of young fans. The Main Organising Committee of the festival was keen to introduce new events to attract the youth that meet their interests and talents, including the Sultanate’s qualifying matches of the world five-a-side amateur football championships “F5WC,” the first tournament of its kind in the Sultanate, which is held during January 13th to February 11th 2017 in different governorates of the Sultanate. On the other hand, the Oman Automobile Society will host car drifting, which is very popular in the Sultanate. The competition includes T3, Regional Drifting, 4-Wheel Drive, Desert rally, Local Drifting and Karting. — ONA
