By Kabeer Yousuf & Lakshmi Kothaneth— MUSCAT: Feb. 6 - The unprecedented cold spell over the Sultanate is expected to continue for some more days even as most of the wilayats reported temperatures dipping to as low as 10 degrees Celsius.

Jabal Al Akhdar and Jabal Shams, Oman’s highest mountains, reported close to 0 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, retail outlets across the country are seeing an increase in the sales of heaters and blankets as mercury levels dip during mornings and evenings.

“Our sales show an increase in room-heaters and blankets as well as winter garments in the past couple of weeks,” Mohammed Aslam, a shopkeeper on Ruwi High Street, said.

Other shopkeepers said the sale of winter clothing has jumped 45 per cent owing to the cold spell.

Meanwhile, the Met office said Musandam is expected to receive rains on Tuesday as mainly clear skies are likely to prevail over rest of the Sultanate.

“There are chances of isolated rain over Musandam Governorate tomorrow (Tuesday) due to the advection of high to medium clouds in the northern part of Oman,” said the weatherman at the Public Authority for Civil Aviation.

The sea along coastal areas of Musandam is expected to be rough, with waves rising to a height of 2.5 metres. It’s likely to be moderate in the coastal areas of Oman Sea.

It is likely to gradually get warmer by two degrees in the coming days.

There are chances of low clouds over the Arabian Sea coastal areas, which is considered normal during this part of the year.
