MUSCAT: The Ministry of Social Development, represented by the Child Welfare Centre, marked the Islamic Orphan Day, which falls on the 15th of the holy month of Ramadhan, under the auspices of Shaikh Mohammed bin Said al Kalbani, Minister of Social Development, in Al Khoudh.

Sulaiman bin Humaid al Jahdami, Director of the Centre, said that this celebration comes in support of the principles of responsibility in achieving levels of comprehensive care for orphans. He added that Islam has paid great attention to orphan.

Al Jahdami pointed out that the ministry benefited from the experiences of others in participating in regional and local conferences to protect the children in general and orphans in particular.

The ministry has recently participated in the 5th Islamic Conference of ministers responsible for childhood in Morocco.

Among its most prominent recommendations is the strengthening of international commitments through the ratification of the Covenant on the Rights of the Child in Islam and the Optional Protocols to the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The ceremony included a religious lecture about the Orphans Rights by Shaikh Aflah bin Ahmed al Khalili.
