SALALAH: The students of the Communication Studies Department of College of Applied Science (CAS) Salalah took part in a mock press conference in the college premises recently.

The main speaker Soumaya Ben Ali, Learning and Development Assistant Manager, Salalah Hilton Resort addressed the press conference. She talked about Green Project which the hospitality establishment is planning to bring soon and its importance in tourism.

In response to students’ questions Soumaya said: “Green project is to help community to save environment amid global concerns of global warming. We encourage recycling, thus becoming Middle East and North Africa’s first resort, which will depend on recycling everything in the resort, from grass to soaps.”

Responding to queries on the resort’s role for the local community, Soumaya said: “We keep connected through visits to educational institutions, organisations caring for people with special needs, and set up activities for them in the resort. Also we care about children and youth. We have kids club, tennis court etc and free training are given to Omani students.”

The students showcased their journalistic skills by raising various issues like the resort’s policy towards workers, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and public relations (PR) practices.

The mock press conference gave the public relation students an opportunity to experience the real functioning of PR and journalists’ interaction with corporate houses. The whole event was organised by the PR students of the college.
