By Staff Reporter — SALALAH: Dec 27: Under its social outreach and industry engagement programme, the Salalah College of Applied Sciences (CAS) organised classroom sessions for 42 employees of a leading hotel in Salalah to hone their skills in English communication — both written and spoken.

The college authorities termed the first such initiative “very successful” as the participating employees of Crowne Plaza Salalah Resort termed this as a “great learning experience” in a fully academic atmosphere and the course delivered by highly qualified teachers.

“It was an opportunity for us to engage with expert teachers for something which all the participants were looking for. Professionally, proper communication with our clients is an important requirement for all the employees in the hospitality sector,” said one of the participating employees.

College Dean Dr Ahmed Balkhair promised more such engagements, which endorses the vision and mission of the college to create a class of skilled manpower ready to handle their jobs effectively.

Isam A Ibrahim, Coordinator of the Community Service Programme of English Department, said the participants were highly motivated. “It was very good experience engaging with a different class of students. Being a successful move, we would like to do more such community engagements.”

“The English Department of Salalah College of Applied Sciences also offers courses for the public and private sectors. There are 4 courses available – English for the Workplace; Tourism English for the Workplace; Hospitality English for the Workplace; Emergency Services First Responders and English for Middle Managers.” Manuel Levonian, Resort’s General Manager, found this an opportunity to develop the skills of the team members especially the Omani staff as part of the IHG’s ‘room to grow’ commitment.
