CAS Nizwa wins prizes in Salim Bahwan competition for short feature films

NIZWA, FEB 14 - A number of students from the Faculty of Applied Sciences in Nizwa received advanced positions during their participation in the Salim Bahwan Competition for short feature films as part of the cultural and artistic events of the Muscat Festival 2018 held by The Oman Film Society (OFS). The competition attracted participation from different regions of the Sultanate, and the number of prizes won by CAS Nizwa were four awards in different sections of the competition.


The first prize for ‘Salma and the doll’ film, was produced by students Nasma al Jabri, Asilah al Bahri, and Juhainah al Hashemi. In addition to the Best Director Award for Asilah al Bahri for the same film. Namira al Balushi won the Best Actress Award for ‘The Other Side’ film, which was produced by students Fatima al Mamari and Ahood al Kindi. Student Jawaher al Hashemi won the Best Photography Award for the film ‘Paradise’, which was produced by students Abeer al Hatmi, Jawaher al Hashemi, and Khusaiba al Muqbali and Fatima al Riyami.


Dr Said bin Khalaf al Nabhani, dean of the college, expressed his thanks and congratulations to the students who have achieved this achievement in the Sultanate. Al Nabhani also stressed the importance of participating in various competitions held at the local and international levels, which have a role in highlighting the talents of students and enhancing the spirit of competition among them.


Student Jawaher al Hashemi, winner of the Best Photography Award for film ‘Paradise’, said, “this competition helped to discover the cinematic talents of the participants as the films participating in the competition were strong, thus enhancing the spirit of competition among the participants”.


Juhainah al Hashemi, one of the members in ‘Salma and the doll’, said, “such competitions will be supportive of the development of our capabilities, and this awards were an incentive for us to complete the career of short film-making”.


The number of short feature films participated in the competition were 22 films. The competition included a number of specialists and hobbyists in the short film industry. The competition was evaluated by drama writer Ahmad al Azki, Qatari director Salim al Mansouri and director Anis al Habib.
