Oman national university football team commenced their campaign at the second edition of the Asian University football tournament, with a 1-0 win against guest team South Africa. Asaad al Waadi netted the winning goal for the Sultanate team to claim the first three points in the group which included Japan, South Korea (B), South Africa and South Korea (C).

Oman university team will take on South Korea team at Taebaek stadium on Thursday. South Korea beat Japan 4-2 in another match. The match will be very tough for the Sultanate team as the Korean team is adapted to playing at Taebaek stadium with local fans support. However, Oman players will be keen to continue with their winning start. Oman were third in the last edition of the tournament.

“We are very pleased with our first victory. Despite the time differences between the Sultanate and South Korea and travelling for long distances, Oman team players managed to win the first match,” Abdulaziz al Habsi, the head coach of the Sultanate team, said.

Regarding the match against the hosts, Al Habsi said: “We observed the Korean team in the opening match. We have noted some points about the team. They are very good in terms of harmony and players are playing together for long time.”

“Also, they have a very good bench strength. However, our players are ready and aim to score better results,” Al Habsi added.
