First day of Ramadhan month announced in Oman

May 6 –   The Moon Sighting Committee of the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs announced that the holy month of Ramadhan moon was sighted via astronomical calculations, therefore (Thursday), 17 May 2018 will be the first day of the holy month of Ramadhan.

The Committee issued the following statement: “Ramadhan is the (month) in which was sent down the Qur’an, as a guide to mankind, also clear (Signs) for guidance and judgment (Between right and wrong). So every one of you who is present (at his home) during that month should spend it in fasting, but if anyone is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed period (Should be made up) by days later. Thanks to Allah and Peace Be Upon His Prophet (PBUH) Mohammed.

On this Blessed occasion, the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs extends congratulations to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, praying to Allah the Almighty for the return of this occasion on His Majesty for many years to come. The Ministry also congratulated the Omani people and the Muslim Nation on this blessed occasion.
