InterContinental Hotels Group  has partnered with e-mobility think tank Global EVRT for the ‘Electric Vehicle Road Trip Middle East 2018’, starting on January 18 with an inaugural event at Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi – Yas

Island. The collaboration will install electrical vehicle charging stations across select IHG hotels in the Middle East, including Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi – Yas Island, Crowne Plaza Sohar, Crowne Plaza Muscat, InterContinental Muscat and InterContinental Fujairah Resort in UAE.

The road trip extends IHG’s support as the official hotel partner to Global EVRT in their efforts to promote adoption of electric vehicles as a sustainable method of transportation in the region.

Through this platform, and in partnership with IHG, Global EVRT will share the latest updates in the electric vehicle industry and allow experts and general public to learn more and network in order to grow the sustainable transportation footprint. Additionally, the Electric Vehicle Road Trip Middle East 2018 will visit and unveil a new electric vehicle 22kw fast charging station supplied by GreenParking at several key IHG properties in the region, alongside e-mobility roundtable events and showcases.

These unveilings will bring the total number of electric vehicle charging stations at IHG hotels located in the Middle East to 10, including some of the first to open in Oman, and the first ever charging station in Sohar. IHG has installed over 100

charging stations at IHG hotels in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, China and Japan in the past six months, and is focusing on installations in the Middle East and Continental Europe in 2018.

Bastien Blanc, Vice President Operations, Middle East, IHG said: “A commitment to operating our business responsibly underpins our entire strategy at IHG. We are committed to adapting and promoting the concept of environmental sustainability across all facets of our operations. As an extension of this philosophy, it is our pleasure to partner with Global EVRT in the Middle East and support them in their efforts to accelerate electric vehicle adoption, towards creating smart and sustainable societies.”

Ben Pullen, Managing Director of Global EVRT said: “We are delighted to partner with IHG for the ‘Electric Vehicle Road Trip Middle East 2018’. Through this initiative, we aim to educate the public on the importance of electric vehicle technology and its role in the creation of a smart and sustainable future. We look forward to working with IHG to host a great road show and hope that we are able to deliver an engaging platform for the

participants.”

The Electric Vehicle Road Trip Middle East is a nine-day electric vehicle road trip of more than 1,200km through two countries in the Middle East (UAE and Oman) in January 2018. The aim of the road trip is to demonstrate the capabilities of electric vehicles and to give people a unique and first-hand experience of the technology.
