MUSCAT: A book on ‘Omani Agreements with Foreign Countries 1798-1891’ by Dr Said bin Mohammed al Hashemi, Associate Professor, Department of History, College of Arts and Social Sciences, was released at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU). The book includes 23 agreements and treaties made by the Sultanate with the countries of the world, some of which were written in both Arabic and English, some in English only.
The researcher collected these documents from different archives and libraries over a period of 10 years and translated a large number of these documents into Arabic, avoiding clarifications and leaving them as they are in their original texts, so that they remain authentic materials for researchers and interested persons.
These agreements reveal the strength of Oman’s foreign relations and throw light on the political and economic relations between the Sultans of Oman with regional and international countries, mostly with the English, French, American and Portuguese in Mozambique. — ONA
