Muscat, Sept 20  -

The Ministry of Health (MoH) has called upon all age groups that were not part of the just-concluded National Measles Immunisation Campaign (NMIC) to donate blood.

In an attempt to prevent shortage at the blood banks, the MoH has asked all the government and private organisations to hold blood donation campaigns to “meet the daily supplies of blood for the different health institutions”.

An appeal was also made by Blood Banks Services (BBS), Department of the Ministry of Health, after conclusion of the vaccination campaign for citizens and residents in the age group 20-35 years.

“The targeted age group (20-35 years) represents 56 per cent of the population. It accounted for most donors in 2016,” said an MoH statement. As per rules, those who have been vaccinated cannot donate blood for a month.

The BBS had organised several blood donation campaigns prior to the NMIC to ensure there was no shortage of blood units and its components.
