Oman Environmental Services Holding Company (be’ah) received 20 members from Muscat Municipal Council on Monday in its headquarters in Bausher. This visit comes as part of the council’s annual plan 2017 that included suggested visits, workshops, and conferences for council members, as well as international and local events and celebrations that the council might be involved in. The visit is also part of be’ah’s message to spread social awareness on conserving the environment and to present the challenges that faced the company throughout sector takeover process in Muscat.

Members were welcomed and then were taken on a tour to Al Multaqa solid waste engineered landfill and healthcare waste treatment facility in Al Amerat. Workers in these two facilities introduced the engineered landfill operational mechanisms to council members.

The members arrived at be’ah’s headquarters to attend several introductory lectures on different topics including the company’s strategies and plans. Shaikh Mohammed bin Suleiman al Harthi, Executive Vice President of the Strategic Development Unit at be’ah, presented an overview about the company and its strategies, aims, and visions. The members were then introduced to other topics including sector takeover services in Muscat, presented by Zakaria al Balushi, Regional Manager at be’ah, and community outreach and environmental awareness, presented by Hafsa al Harasi, Community Outreach Program Lead at be’ah. The presentations were followed by a discussion session.

It is noteworthy that Muscat Municipal Council’s functions include providing the suitable suggestions to safeguard the environment from pollution, suggesting the establishment of markets, slaughterhouses and landfills and its relative regulations and coordinating with the respective competent authorities, finally, suggesting the regulations that govern collecting, disposing and recycling wastes in accordance with the latest scientific and economic methods and coordinating with the respective authorities regarding these matters.
