Oman Environmental Services Holding Company ‘be’ah’ and Mwasalat signed an agreement in the field of safe disposal of used lead Acid batteries yesterday in Mwasalat’s headquarters. The agreement was signed by Eng Suhailah bint Nasir al Kindiyah, Head of Tenders, Contracts, and Procurement Department at be’ah, and Engineer Mohammed bin Nasir al Ghafri, General Manager of Corporate Support. In addition, a number of staff members from both companies participated in the signing ceremony.
The agreement will concentrate on the scope of the right disposal of lead acid batteries. Be’ah will be responsible for collecting and transporting used batteries from Mwasalat to be’ah’s certified processing and recycling facility. Be’ah will also provide Mwasalat with special approved pallets that prevent any leakage of acids, which cause harmful effects on the environment and the human health.
Eng Suhailah bint Nasir al Kindiyah stated: “the agreement aims at unifying public and private institutions’ efforts in controlling the movement of lead acid batteries to achieve be’ah’s strategy in tackling the damage caused by negative practices through managing the solid waste sector across the Sultanate. We welcome companies, institutions, and individuals to take part in reducing environmental negative practices by disposing Lead Acid Batteries properly by directing them to be’ah’s processing facility for recycling.” “Inappropriate disposal of this type of batteries causes several damaging effects on the environment including ground water and soil pollution, as well as hazardous effects that the random burning of batteries cause to the air,” Al Kindiyah added.
