Batinah Expressway to be fully opened next month

April 17- The entire stretch of the Batinah Expressway will be open for traffic from May 7, the Ministry of Transport and Communications announced. The top ministry officials including the Minister of Transport and Communications reviewed the progress of work that is in its final stages on Tuesday.


Oman’s Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) is undertaking the Batinah Expressway project in Al Batinah, Oman.


The project involves the construction of around 265km Expressway, one of the biggest road projects in the country that begins from the start of the Muscat Expressway road all the way to the Oman-UAE border of Khatmat Malaha.


The project was planned to be implemented in two phases with three sections and in 11 packages, the first six are main packages and the remaining five are the interchanges for the expressway. The first and second section of the carriageway will together account for an 180km expressway (Packages I, II, III, IV) and the third section covers the remaining 85km expressway (Packages V & VI).


The three sections of the project are further divided into six packages. The 45km package I will stretch from Al Naseem to Wilayat Al Suwaiq; 44.75km package II from Wilayat Al Suwaiq to Wilayat Shinas; package III runs between Suwaiq and Khabourah parallel to the existing Batinah Highway, is 43km long; package IV covers a distance of 50.5km; package V covers 41km; and package VI covers 45km.
