Aviation fuel sales up 5pc

MUSCAT: The Sultanate’s sales of aviation fuel increased by 5 per cent during the first quarter of 2017 to 1.185 million barrels compared to 1.133 million barrels in the corresponding period in 2016 benefiting from the growth witnessed by the aviation sector.


The Sultanate’s production of aviation oil increased by 23 per cent during the first quarter of 2017 to 1.374 million barrels compared to 1.121 million barrels in the corresponding period last year. The aviation fuel comes 4th in terms of production by the refineries in the Sultanate after diesel, 95 and 91 petrol.


This growth comes in tandem with the growth of the aviation sector in the Sultanate.


The statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) point out that the total number of flights at the first quarter of 2017 increased by 11.9


per cent to 27,605 flights compared to 24,669 flights during the same period last year.  The number of international flights stood at 25,063, an increase by 2,651 flights compared to the first quarter of 2016.


The number of domestic flights increased by 12.6 per cent from 2,257 to 2,542 flights.— ONA
