MUSCAT: Musallam bin Ali al Maashani, Member at the State Council, Deputy Chairman of the Arab Parliament, has said that honouring His Majesty Sultan Qaboos with Arab Man International Award 2016 by Arab-European Centre of Human Rights and International Law (AECHRIL) is a historic moment as it recognises the role played by His Majesty the Sultan in promoting dialogue and understating in solving issues of the region and the world.

It is also a recognition of His Majesty the Sultan’s keenness to build strong relations with various countries of the world based on exchanging interests and enhancing tolerance, understanding and dialogue principles.

He added in a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA) that award by the AECHRIL comes as recognition of His Majesty the Sultan’s leading role in promoting peace in the world.

He affirmed that the Arab Parliament will adopt His Majesty the Sultan’s approach, which depends on using dialogue as a means for solving the pending issues.

This approach will create the conducive environment that helps in solving the Arab issues amidst the exceptional circumstances facing the Arab world.

Al Maashani pointed out that electing the Sultanate as Deputy Chairman of the Arab Parliament at the second legislative sitting at the extraordinary session held on December 10 in Cairo stresses the status of the Sultanate in the Arab world.

It also renews the trust of the member states in the Omani parliamentary institutions and the role they play in enhancing the joint Arab work.

He affirmed that electing the Sultanate will provide an incentive to ensure more contribution in providing Arab parliamentary work with positive visions that enhance its work. — ONA
