MUSCAT: Omani nationals can now competitively apply for a number of postgraduate scholarships via the Higher Education Admissions Center until March 1, 2017. The National Postgraduate Scholarship Programme was established to enable Omani scholarship recipients to pursue their postgraduate studies in specific programmes at well-reputed and approved Universities abroad. “A major aim of the Oman government is to ensure that students enroll in specific programmes related to areas that are deemed important for the national human resource development.

The Ministry of Higher Education aims to steer students in the right direction by providing them with an opportunity to gain the subject-specific knowledge and skills required for the further development and diversification of the Sultanate’s economy,” says Hilal al Azki, Director of the Department of Postgraduate Studies, Ministry of Higher Education.

Omani nationals can complete and submit an application online via the Higher Education Admissions Center (HEAC) electronic system, provided that they submit a letter of acceptance confirming an unconditional offer from one of the universities approved by the Ministry of Higher Education for The National Postgraduate Scholarship Program.  A complete list of approved Universities and a list of scholarship programmes are available on the Higher Education Admissions Center (HEAC) website. All of the approved universities are selected from the Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities League Table 2016. The Higher Education Admission Center (HEAC) electronic system is open for online applications until Wednesday March 1, 2017 at 2 pm in the afternoon (2 pm Oman time). Applications for MA and PhD scholarships will be reviewed by a selection committee, while Medical scholarship applications will be reviewed by the Oman Medical Specialty Board. Successful applicants will be notified on the 1st of May 2017.

“Applicants should make sure they are clear on the current scholarship eligibility requirements and the relevant required supporting documents, by thoroughly reading the guidelines uploaded to the Higher Education Admissions Center’s website”, says Hilal Al Azki. An Arabic and English version of the guidelines (announcement) have been uploaded to the Higher Education Admissions Center (HEAC) website. For more information about the scholarship application procedures, please contact the Ministry of Higher Education’s call centre (243 40 900) on weekdays (Sun-Thursday) between 8 am- 2 pm.
