Anti-doping committee calls to protect sportsmen

MUSCAT: The Omani Anti-Doping Committee, in cooperation with World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), on Wednesday organised the GCC and Yemen Anti-Doping Forum. The forum is held on the sidelines of the 15th meeting of the GCC and Yemen Regional Anti- Doping Organization (RADO). The forum was attended by Dr Sultan bin Yaarub al Busaidy, Chairman of Oman Anti-Doping Committee, Chairman of the GCC and Yemen Regional Anti-Doping Organization (RADO), Khalid bin Mohammed al Zubair, Chairman of Oman Olympic Committee, Rob Koehler, WADA’s Deputy Director General, Becky Scott, President of WADA Sportsmen Committee, representatives of the Oman Olympic Committee, the sports federations and committees, in addition to the Omani and GCC sportsmen.


While addressing the gathering, the Chairman of Oman Anti- Doping Committee pointed out that the forum provides an opportunity for sportsmen, Oman Anti-Doping Committee and WADA to join hands to protect sportsmen against the use of doping, which have negative effects on them.


Rob Koehler, WADA’s Deputy Director General presented WADA’s report on the current trends of the Agency and its functions on regional and country levels. He also spoke about the Russian doping issue and how it was handled by WADA. Becky Scott, President of WADA Sportsmen Committee made a presentation on the sportsmen code of ethics and their protection. The presentation included questions about developing the international charter in a way that meets their aspirations. — ONA
