MUSCAT Dec 18 - The Al Amerat and Al Naseem parks will be closed temporarily for visitors for a month starting from December 18.

According to an announcement by the Muscat Municipality, the closure is part of the preparations for Muscat Festival 2018, which will kick off on January 18. In an online announcement, the Organising Committee of Muscat Festival at the municipality said, “Al Amerat and Al Naseem parks are being closed with effect from December 18 and the public are advised to cooperate.”

Taking place every year in January or February, the Muscat Festival is Oman’s largest cultural event celebrating the country’s history, culture, traditional arts and food. Like its previous edition, the duration of the festival has been reduced to 24 days this time as well.

Since its launch in 1998, the festival has been treated as a family-friendly event that has celebratory, cultural and artistic participations.

It is a cross between a night market, fair and concert.

The display of fireworks, colours, music and clapping to the drums of dancers all together make it more entertaining, he said.

The municipality expects to attract huge crowds as a large number of programmes have been lined up to enthrall visitors.
