New York: Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdallah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs, met Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of North Korea, Ri Yong Ho on the sidelines of 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly on Saturday. He also held talks with the Azerbaijan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Elmar Mammadyarov, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem, UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Nikolai Mladenov, UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East peace process.
The ministers and diplomats discussed means of developing political, economic and cultural relations, regional and international politics. Yemen crisis, Syrian conflict and the humanitarian assistance to the suffering Palestinians came up in the discussions. Alawi also met Secretary- General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Dr Dr Abdul Latif bin Rashid al Zayani and President of the International Peace Institute Terje Rød-Larsen who praised the role of the Sultanate as peacemaker and mediatior in the Middle East. — ONA
