The second edition of Al Zubiar fast chess tournament of Ramadhan began on Thursday at the entertainment hall in Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex.
As many as 55 players from different governorates of the Sultanate and expatriates under the age of 16 featured in the tournament.
Al Zubair fast chess tournament of Ramadhan is open for Omanis in all age categories while for expatriates it should be under 16 years old. The tournament will be held under the International Chess Association rules and regulations that stated each player should have FIDE ID.
The Swiss Manager system will be implemented for breaking the draw during the game.
The top three winners of tournament will get medals and cash prizes and fourth and fifth spot will also get some cash prizes.
The Oman chess committee aims through these kinds of tournaments to spread the popularity of chess among people especially the youth.
The target would also be to select some talented players to join national teams and represent the Sultanate in different tournaments and championships.
